By the time we arrived at Guilt and Co. Eatery in Kyalami Downs, big fat raindrops had started falling and my partner and I had to race into the restaurant, not really knowing what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised as soon as we stepped in.
The first thing that stood out was the pink walls - it may sound overwhelming but the warmth of the colour transports you to another location with sand, warm breezes and sunshine. Next thing to catch your eye is the low hanging plants all across the ceiling of the store - once more adding to that tropical feel. I felt cosy right away and the bad weather outside became a distant memory.

Guilt and Co. has numerous restaurants across Gauteng and the Kyalami branch is the latest addition to a stunning brand. The theme of the restaurants gives South America with the hanging greenery, warm colours and thatched chairs but on the other hand, there is an Italian theme too with marble countertops, rounded archways and long wooden family tables. There was a lot to look at and my eyes couldn't stop feasting.

The mixture of textures, although unusual, go so well together and create a unique aesthetic that gives Guilt and Co. a marked sense of style. Even the art on the walls emphasised the tropical feel of the space and it truly felt like an escape. The showstopper was the stunning bar in the middle of the room: the white pillars and the golden square details, the shelves of bottles definitely were a statement piece that made an impact.

Alright, enough about the aesthetics - let's get to the good stuff.
The menu is extensive and can satisfy any craving you might have on the day. Whether you want an Italian inspired starter or a hearty fillet and sirloin risotto or perhaps you’d rather have a couple of Guilty signature sushi platters or just a simple pizza and pasta date - literally ANYTHING you want - it's there! I was completely spoilt for choice. They also have mouth-watering cakes on display which make for a divine dessert.
Upon arrival, I was sipping on a cafe latte, and I may not know much about coffee but that was a good strong cup and I enjoyed a cute little biscuit with it too as I sang along to their amazing playlist - definitely a highlight.
As a starter, we decided to be adventurous and tried the Carpaccio Antipasto which was basically thin slices of rare beef topped with pesto sauce, cheese shavings and avocado.
Now, I was a bit hesitant because I’m not the biggest fan of rare meat but I must admit, I am slowly becoming a believer. The slices were so tender, literally tearing from the slightest pull and the flavours and textures in my mouth were so unusual but in the best way. Long story short: I was impressed.

For mains, I went back to what I knew and ordered lamb chops with mashed potatoes and my partner decided to have breakfast for lunch and got strawberry pancakes with bacon! Both meals were delicious, I really enjoyed the lamb chops, they were tender and tasty and just perfect. The mash was fluffy and soft but I must admit, I don’t think mashed potatoes were made for me - it never quite hits the spot.

I obviously stole a bite of the pancakes and I can confirm that they were heaven on a plate: the sweet and savoury contrast of the strawberry and syrup with the bacon was simply delightful. Unfortunately, i was too stuffed to try out the desserts but that is definitely my mission for next time.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The service was lovely, our waitress was extremely attentive and accommodating and the vibes were everything.
I loved how quiet it was and how secluded it felt even though there were other tables around. It is the perfect spot for a girls night or a friend’s reunion or anything at all because there is a ton of space on the veranda which has plush velvet couches and barstools and is covered thus you’re protected from the elements.
The ambiance is relaxed, easy and one really feels like they can exhale and let go.
This is one guilty pleasure you will not regret indulging in.
