Home Suite Home

Whenever you book a stay at a hotel, we all have a certain expectation of what that visit is going to be like. You’ll go to reception, check in, go to your generic hotel room and just come in and out as you please throughout your stay and maybe use some of the hotel amenities.

Some hotels can make these simple actions feel pretty basic and unmemorable but other hotels can welcome you so warmly and carry such charm that you never want to leave.

Home Suite Hotels Rosebank is the latter that managed to make my whole stay an experience and I still don’t fully understand how. Let’s get into it, shall we?

Home Suite Hotels is a hotel franchise with a single hotel in Rosebank and three hotels scattered across Cape Town. These boutique hotels are made “classy and unique for the discerning business and leisure traveler’’ and are usually nestled in the heart of the city to ensure guests have easy access to the niceties of the city they are visiting.

I was at the Rosebank Home Suite and the first thing that greets you at reception is a sign saying “Welcome Home…” and that subtle touch immediately sets the tone for the rest of your stay. There is an air of ease and familiarity that they have managed to cultivate, that even when you speak to the receptionist or the barista in the kitchen, there isn't this overly formal repertoire - there’s still respect but it's comfortable and I loved that.

WELCOME: The reception and lobby area of Home Suite Hotel Rosebank.

The hotel has capacity for about 30 guests at a time, which makes it feel like the whole place is yours and your body relaxes into the space as you cruise through the quiet corridors.

Stepping into my suite, my jaw dropped at the amount of space the room had. Compared to the closet rooms I have grown accustomed to in Sandton, the square footage was very impressive - not to mention the large balcony too! There was a lounge area with a couch and coffee table and a small breakfast nook with two chairs and a reading table with a slouchy (but gorgeous) armchair and mini breakfast bar with a bar fridge and tea amenities.

One of my favourite things about the hotel is the décor and the attention to detail. The contemporary style elevates the standard of everything around you and the details remind you that you are in a high-end hotel. The light fixtures, the floor to ceiling windows, the moody colours and mixtures of textures, the shaped mirrors - everything was particular and purposeful.

MAIN SUITE: A shot of the suite - couldn't even get the whole room in one frame!

MOODY BATHROOM: This is the bathroom in the room, the shower was so spacious and I absolutely loved the shape of the mirror.

The hotel itself is quite tech-savvy, you can communicate with the concierge via WhatsApp and your Wi-Fi code is on your TV screen upon arrival. You can access Netflix and DSTV on the TV and enjoy your screen-time exactly as you would at home. They just make everything so easy and convenient which gives you space to unwind on arrival.

My second favourite thing was the bed! It was so soft but firm, the mattress truly just enveloped my body in the most wonderful way and I had the best sleep, which is rare for me because I tend to be quite restless in new beds.

The hotel does not have room service (there is housekeeping) but they had something that was new to me and pleasantly surprising and it was an Honesty Bar. Essentially, the hotel had a kitchen area that had all the snacks and drinks you could ever crave at any given moment and instead of paying for the items right there and then - you just write down what you took and you’ll pay for it at the end of your stay when you check out. Now it sounds risky/foolish at first but I realised that that was another way they made you feel like you were at home! Because at home you don't pay for your food in the kitchen, you just walk in and grab what you like. It's that thought and attention to detail that really made Home Suites stand out for me.

DINING ROOM: This is the dining area where all guests gather to enjoy their breakfast and the Honesty Bar was in this space too.

HONESTY BAR: This is the Honesty Bar that is available to guests. I love how pretty they made it look, snacks deserve pretty spaces too!

So while there is no room service, the hotel offers guests breakfast between 08:00-11:00 and this is when the hotel comes alive with chatter and energy from guests all in the dining area. There’s a chef who can make you whatever you ask: English Breakfast? Poached eggs? Cheesy omelette? It's done. Do you see the convenience? Love it.

The clientele was largely foreign, you’d hear some French in the corner or British accents being thrown at a large family table. It felt like a real melting pot and it just felt nice to be within it. It must be mentioned that the hotel is pet-friendly, there is a hotel dog that roams freely in the lobby and the dining area - so if you aren’t a dog person then it's important to keep that in mind.

Guests can enjoy the rooftop area, there is a pool, a pool bar and a lovely view of Rosebank that doesn't get old. Again, the comfort and ease that you feel to just roam and come & go as you please really makes the hotel stand apart.

POOL DECK: This is the rooftop area for guests, there is a pool bar, a pool and a lounge area.

We enjoyed the hotel so much that we decided to extend our stay, and I think that speaks volumes about the quality of our stay and just how great everything was. I plan to visit the Home Suite Hotel in Cape Town one of these days, and I hope this has inspired you to give them a try too!

I booked my stay through Booking.com and the rates start at R1, 700.
