I had the pleasure of trying out Amigos Restaurant in the heart of Ezulwini, Eswatini. Located at the much-loved The Gables Shopping Center, Amigos is perfectly placed for every visitor and local who’s in the mood for tasty, Portuguese-inspired cuisine.

The restaurant has a traditional Portuguese-esque aesthetic with its open plan design, wooden furniture and white clothed tables. It’s simple and functional, making it an ideal spot to host private and corporate events.

One can tell that cleanliness is extremely important and it shows in the neatness of the restaurant.

Amigos has a fairly wide variation of food options such as seafood, pasta, casseroles, grilled chicken, steaks, curries and Umgcwembe dishes (meat platters).

I am always looking to try out seafood in Eswatini because I feel like good seafood is hard to come by and I was pleasantly delighted by the meal I chose.

I ordered a seafood platter that consisted of 4 hake fillets, 8 queen prawns, calamari and mussels. Unfortunately they were out of calamari so I got a double portion of the hake which I was happy about in the end because it was so delicious! The prawns were equally tasty, well-seasoned and fresh.

SEAFOOD DELIGHT: This is a shot of the tasty seafood platter that originally comes with calamari too.

I was enjoying the prawns and hake so much that I left the mussels for last, they were quite creamy so because they were cold when I had them - I don’t think I got the full effect but I liked the creamy taste.

I also had 400g Pork Ribs for a ‘’surf and turf’’ feel - we always need to try the meat - and they were really nicely done. The ribs were saucy and juicy, there was adequate meat on the bone and they had a sweetness to them that I enjoyed.

Overall, I had a great experience at Amigos, the staff was friendly and the space is large enough that everyone is just in their own corner doing their own thing, creating a cosy and intimate feel.

If you ever find yourself in Eswatini and you need a delicious bite; be sure to check Amigos Restaurant, you won’t regret it!
